August 2021

GoBU had its first in-person Creative Liturgy since the start of the pandemic and the theme was entitled, “Women’s Identity”. It was an all-female cast that took the stage, and the turnout was great for the first Creative Liturgy back in person. The audience learned the contrast between what Godly womanhood is, and what the world is selling. This Creative Liturgy was held in the historic Midtown Art Center theater and a star-studded cast of female singers, poets and storytellers nearly blew the roof off of the building. A few comments from the audience were that the night was just what they needed, and for those who had not returned back to church, it was refreshing to experience God in a corporate setting again.

The next Creative Liturgy is tentatively scheduled for May 2022. As soon as details are available, we will post them on our social media platforms, but make sure you register as soon as possible, as tickets were sold out for the August Creative Liturgy. Don't miss out!!

Go to www.GoBU.tv and sign up for our newsletter. You will be one of the first to know when registration is open.

This past summer, GoBU coordinated and put on its first Block Party named, "Celebrate Wellness". With the partnership of an inner-city church, Restoration Community Church ("RCC"), it was an outstanding event and one that we are looking to repeat annually. RCC brought in 9 healthcare providers who gave of their time and resources to serve the community through blood pressure checks, limited health-screenings, and much more. GoBU coordinated the musical portion of the block party, and organized 6 Christian hip hop artists who shared the importance of being whole emotionally, mentally, and spiritually through their music and their testimonies. Many residents from the Third Ward area of Houston benefited from the healthcare portion of the event, and even more were introduced for the first time to Hip Hop with a positive, God honoring message. Our plan is to host the Celebrate Wellness Block Party again in the of summer 2022. If you know of healthcare providers who would like to participate in such an event, please email the GoBU team at HeyGoBU@gmail.com.

GoBU held its first fundraiser titled “Mission Impact”, and for our first in-person event (without social distancing restrictions), it was largely a success. In addition to raising funds, another one of GoBU’s goals was to bring awareness to our ministry and the importance of kingdom hip hop and entertainment. GoBU is a budding multi-media ministry that exists outside of the church walls. Though our supporters are growing in numbers, their generosity is abounding. To our amazement, over 90% of those who attended the GoBU fundraiser gave financially to support our Kingdom mission. This support was confirmation that GoBU has made an impact in the lives of the people we serve, and it was motivation for us to push harder to accomplish the tasks for which we believe God has commissioned us to carry out. We will continue our fundraising efforts into 2022, and we invite you to join us in Mission Impact!
