December 2020

GoBU hosted its first drive-in movie the day after Christmas. With temps in the mid 70’s and clear skies, families flocked to what they considered a Covid safe environment, and to a place where the whole family could enjoy. For many families, being out together with other people that they didn't know was unfamiliar since the start of the pandemic, so this was a welcomed treat. GoBU chose the newest and hottest movie of the season, Jingle Jangle, and not only were the guests treated to a free movie, but GoBU provided a great selection of food vendors as well as merch. With the infamous Houston city skyline as our backdrop and the warm atmosphere, most people commented that it was the first time in a long time they felt stress-free and were able to put the pandemic in the back of their minds...even if for a few hours. For those of us on the GoBU team that serve, we were blessed that we were able to be a blessing to so many in a small way. GoBU is for our community and we are very intentional about how we serve our community. Follow us and turn on the notification bell for updates on future events so you can come out and enjoy! #jinglejangle #driveinmovie #familyfun #freefamilyfun. #jinglejangle #driveinmovie #familyfun #freefamilyfun

August 2020

GoBU pulled off its First Virtual Creative Liturgy back in August 2020, and the topic was on Manhood! Creative Liturgy is a quarterly event that poetically explores a trending topic from a biblical lens through poetry, song, and story. Dating back to 2018, Creative liturgy has historically been an in-person event which averaged roughly 150 attendees per event. To our amazement, GoBU had over 1,500 views within one week of streaming Creative Liturgy online.

We’ve seen God create a beautiful blend of varied cultures and ages gathering in an urban setting as they experience the power and the ministry of reconciliation through this platform. With a profoundly gifted team of local recording artists, poets, and storytellers, GoBU’s Creative Liturgy has helped to bring the intersection of our faith, culture, and community to life and back to the public square. Each Creative Liturgy is a unique and powerful way to express the gospel through the arts. The next Creative Liturgy is tentatively scheduled for May 2022, so please be on the look-out for this upcoming event! You won’t want to miss it!!

Since January 2020, GoBU has had the honor of donating monthly to two students in Mozambique, Saide Moconha and Soni Edrison Siya. Both students are part of a new believers discipleship program. Each month, the funds that GoBU sends are allocated to provide for their college expenses. Since the Covid-19 outbreak, their college program has become virtual. This has lowered the cost of their schooling, so the leftover funds donated by GoBU are now being used to assist with funding their own startup business. We are more than excited to see how God continues to work in their lives through their education and business endeavors.
