This month we are highlighting @Lecrae in our GoBU in the Community segment.

On Twitter, award-winning artist Lecrae posted a video talking about the upcoming release of a new song called “Set Me Free” which was released on Friday, March 20th. In this video he mentions that he contemplated not releasing the song due to the current corona virus, but he decided to continue with his plan for the following reason:

“The whole album [Restoration] is centered around hope, and us needing hope, and us needing to believe that God restores the years that the locusts have eaten… It’s a good time to put this music out because it’s hope-filled and I think that is what people are grasping for

This global pandemic has left many people in a precarious situation. Many people have lost their jobs or are losing their jobs, are infected with a virus that could take their lives, and many people have family members who have passed away from this virus already.

In addition to this, individuals and families are struggling to balance their remote work situation with day to day tasks such as taking care of their children or parents. In these situations, we do not know God's motivation or specific intentions. But one thing that we should be sure about is that whatever God is doing, He is doing to strengthen our relationship with Him and bring us closer to Him. This is not said to downplay the gravity of the situation.

The effects of the corona virus will persist well beyond the end of this pandemic. People might continue to lose their jobs and therefore struggle to make ends meet. People will probably continue to grieve the loss of family members and friends who died due to the corona virus. In the midst of this situation, we at GoBU pray that we all overcome this knowing that there is a God who loves us and cares about us. Isaiah 26:3-4 says it best:

“Those of steadfast mind you keep in peace—because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord God you have an everlasting rock.”

Let God continue to be the one you place your faith in, so that you will never be shaken as you GoBU.
